Two killed in highway accidents as road carnage plunges

 

A nurse,  on her way to duty in a  Social Security hospital overstretched by coronavirus patients, was killed in a car accident on Sunday night, June 7.

She was one of two victims while  reduced road traffic has slashed Panama’s road carnage

Elvis Judith Palacios Dominguez, 36,   was heading to the  San Miguel Arcángel hospital in San Miguelito when she lost control of her vehicle on the Pan-American Highway at Las Americas at around 8 pm.

Paramedics transferred the mother of three to the Irma De Lourdes Tzanetatos hospital in Tocumen, where she died.

Half an hour earlier Herminio Vega, lost  his life in  a head-on collision between two 4×4 vehicles on the Pan-American highway in  La Piedra in the  Chepo district. Fire service personnel took two injured people to hospital.

So far this year  74 people have died in a traffic accident. More than double that number were victims in the same period last year.
