The Invisible Life voted #1 at Panama (virtual) film fest
The feature film The Invisible Life, by Brazil’s Karim Aïnouz , won the ninth (virtual edition of Panama’s International Film Festival (IFF).
The film was the most voted by the public, who had to see the screenings through an online platform
Produced in Brazil and Germany in 2019, the film tells the story of two sisters who try to meet after their separation in Brazil in the 1950s.
The play, starring Carol Duarte and Julia Stockler, won one of the Cannes Film Festival’s Best Film Awards in 2019.
The original IFF public showing in movie theaters was scheduled for March 26 to April 1, but was canceled due to the pandemic.
The festival had 13 productions from 16 countries.
“The public response was very good if we take into account the crisis are living through, But, people responded in solidarity because they missed their festival, said IFF director Pituka Ortega.
“Our bet was that we brought a fresh, new cinema that most people could not see on other platforms, at least in the Central American region,” said Ortega.
In addition to The Invisible Life , showings included Sorry We Missed You , by the UK’s Ken Loach ; Araña , by the Chilean Andrés Wood ; Thus Spoke the Money Changer, by Uruguayan Federico Veiroj, and the Central American collective production Days of Light ,
