Archbishop’s quarantine breaking tour condemned by key advisor
An Easter Sunday tour of Panama and San Miguelito by Archbishop Domingo Ulloa blessing the faithful who were in total lockdown raised the ire of Panama epidemiologist Xavier Sáez Llorens a key advisor to the government in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic.
Monsignor Ulloa escorted by motorized units of the National Police rode in the Popemobile to display the blessed sacrament to his flock, hunkered down behind closed doors facing arrest if they ventured out
Sáez Llorens who has a reputation for forthright comments was not impressed at the breaking of the “absolute quarantine” wrote on his Twitter account: “ I respect the faith of all believers and I do not intend to create any controversy, but it does not seem correct to me that Monsignor Ulloa breaks the quarantine. … in fact, the pontiff has given his message virtually … leaders must also have common sense … “
Within hours the post had over 4,000 “likes”, and more than 625 comments, many against the Archbishop’s actions.
He was reportedly provided with official documents allowing him to break the quarantine.
The last time the popemobile was used was for the visit of Pope Francis to World Youth Day 2019 in Panama
