Covid -19 cases climb to 674, and 9 deaths

The number of people infected  with  COVID-19  rose by  116 to 674  and  9 deaths  reported  Panama’s Ministry of Health (Minsa) at Thursday, March 26 press  conference

 The 9th  deceased is a 73-year-old man who had contact with a person diagnosed as positive by the   Ministry.

The adviser to the Pan American Health Organization, Gerardo Alfaro warned that the situation of the coronavirus in Panama is already “critical”.

Alfaro warned of the need to abide by the quarantine and explained that the results of today’s measures will be known in two weeks. “The important thing is to balance the ability to care for critically ill patients and avoid deaths,” he added.

The director of Social Security, Enrique Lau, who fears that the capacity of the system will overflow due to the irresponsibility of people who do not comply with the quarantine. “This is a shared responsibility … the population must take things seriously … this is not a game,”

Meanwhile, the epidemiologist Lourdes Moreno said that of the 674 infections, 374 are men and 300 are women. There are 580 patients in home isolation and 83 are hospitalized (60 in ward and 23 in intensive care).

Most cases have been recorded in patients between the ages of 20 to 59, 524 in total, while 15.3% have been recorded in patients between the ages of 60 and 79 and 2% in people over 80 years of age. and children under 20 years 5%.
