OPINION: President stays mum as VP exposures unfold
Words are not enough. If one preaches “good government”, it is necessary to give the example. Therefore, it is inadmissible that the Vice President of the Republic has systematically refused – as well as his family – to respond to anomalies detected in works executed in Penonomé with the direct intervention of a company in which his name appears.
His company received more than $1 million in contracts for minor works, which breach their contracts. His refusal to give answers raises suspicions and damages the image of his government. But it is not new in him to refuse to explain. In fact, his attitude had already been expressed in a speech during the inauguration of Expo Inmobiliaria Acobir 2020, last January, when he said “that political power was used to pursue and fulfill personal purposes and along the way much damage was done to our society, our country and our future … the past never again.” Revealing words that show his permissive tolerance for flagrant acts of corruption, because with his words he denied the existence of such abuses. It is just that permissibility to which today aspires that makes its discourse of “good government” hollow. – LA PRENSA, Mar 4
