Prosecutor waiting to interview Martinelli in “disappearance” investigation
The Public Prosecutor (MP) is waiting to take a sworn statement from former President Ricardo Martinelli (2009-2014), as part of the investigations into the sudden disappearance, seven years ago, of the then Deputy Director of Audit of the Superintendence of the Securities Market, Vernon Ramos who was investigating the Financial Pacific brokerage, home to the Martinelli controlled account High Spirit believed to have been used to manipulate mining shares on the Toronto, Canada, Stock Exchange.
This is stated in the five-year management report of the Attorney General, Kenia Porcell, released on Friday. Porcell will be replaced in office by Eduardo Ulloa on January 2, 2020.
According to the report, the diligence is related to an exchange of messages, via WhatsApp, with “VR”, where it refers to him that Vernon Ramos, as he told the police, was a protected witness for the Inter Bolsa case”.
The case of the disappearance of Ramos, which is investigated by the Prosecutor’s Office against Organized Crime, remains open as it was declared a crime against humanity. He disappeared from his home on a Saturday afternoon, dressed only in shorts and a tee-shirt.
Before his disappearance, on November 16, 2012, in addition to the Financial Pacific case, Ramos was investigating alleged anomalies in Interbolsa Panama, after Colombian authorities ordered the intervention of the parent company of the broker company now closed with many of its executives awaiting trial on corruption charges.
