Present government inherited bankrupt country – ex-president

The present Panama government inherited a bankrupt country from the previous administration led by Juan  Carlos Varela,   former Panama president, Mireya Moscoso (1999-2004),  told TVN on  Saturday October 26 while participating in a meeting of the Panamenista  Party in Penonomé.

In  a brief analysis of the reality of the country and  the economic crisis, she  said that “in a hundred days not that much can be done because there is no magic wand to make big changes.”

Moscoso was positive about the management of the Democratic Revolutionary Party (PRD)  saying that it is possible for them to make changes, but it should not be dated because globally the economy is bad. Things have to go little by little “but I have the hope and faith that all things will change.”

Moscoso said that  the Panamenista  Party  is “a dead man buried, after the elections.” Those who aspire to the leadership must first think about raising the essence of the party, , then you can see what will happen in the elections of 2024.

Panama’s former mayor and presidential candidate   José Isabel Blandón, said that changes have to be made to the party without forgetting the roots.

Blandón also criticized the way in which constitutional reforms are being discussed, and accused the PRD bench of including articles that undermine the country’s institutionality.
