300,000 illegal weapons in Panama aid gang killings
As gang wars, drug smuggling and killings increase Illegal weapons continue to pour across Panamanian borders with the number of illegal arms outstripping those obtained legally.
In September alone, the police seized 218 weapons of different types used to commit crimes on the streets including “Thirty-one shotguns, five rifles, a submachine gun two rifles, and two fragmentation grenades” says Jorge Miranda, director of the National Police.
In the past administration, more than 7.000 illegal firearms, were taken out of circulation.
A United Nations report revealed that in Panama there are 300,000 illegal weapons, more than double the amount of legal ones.
