Complaint laid in $2,4 million customs scam
Panama Customs Director, Tayra Barsallo, has filed a criminal complaint for $2.4 million alleged fraud against the
Barsallo said that some companies linked to individuals issuing false receipts for items that were not paid
She stressed that they have made themselves available to the Public Prosecutor to support them in the
investigation and find the State’s officials responsible for the theft.
Between four to five companies were involved plus “all the additional ones that may come out after the investigation”
Barsallo said that the import tax payment ballots were not canceled in the banks and do not appear as canceled in the entity’s system. “They have been altered and the Public Ministry will determine that condition with the evidence they deem relevant.”
