One firefighter dead another injured in blazing building
A Panama firefighter was killed and another injured when a gas tank exploded while they were in a room in a burning building in Ave A near Parque Los Aburridos in El Chorillo on Sunday, September 22
First Sergeant Manuel Antonio Naar, was with the first unit to arrive at the blaze from the Juan Antonio Guizado station in Plaza Amador
The explosion brought debris down on the two men. The injured firefighter who had tried to help his partner was taken to the National Hospital.
President Laurentino Cortizo, lamented Naar’s death, in a message posted on his Twitter account.
Thirteen families who had struggled to save some possessions while the blaze sped through the two-story building and are now homeless are receiving assistance from local authorities.
