Quake alert extended as shocks continue
Panama’s Civil Protection System (Sinaproc) extended the earthquake green alert in Chiriqui for another week, following continuing seismic activity on Tuesday, July 2.
The preventive green alert seeks to constantly monitor the shocks and to increase the work of promotion, education and orientation of the population, so that they know what to do, before, during or after these seismic events.
Meanwhile, in the last few hours there have been four earthquakes in intensity between 3.9 and 4.4 degrees, according to Sinaproc.
The earthquakes were felt with the strongest force in the sectors of Puerto Armuelles, the Fincas Bananeras, Paso Canoas, Alanje, Bugaba, David and Tierras Altas.
“We remind the population to always stay calm, we are in a seismic zone, where evacuation and emergency plans must be made,” said Francisco Santamaría, director of Sinaproc in Chiriqui.
