OPINION: Justice as a yardstick
Justice requires at all levels, especially in high profile cases, that the government that starts today act with commitment and strengthen the institutional framework. The appointment of principal and substitute magistrates in the Supreme Court of Justice is required. This is an opportunity to send the correct messages, avoiding partisan designations or friends of power. Likewise, in the Public Prosecutor’s Office and the Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences urgently need a larger budget to face the current challenges, especially the country’s international obligations. The first stage of the government of President Laurentino Cortizo will coincide with important procedural actions in emblematic cases, such as that of Odebrecht. Faced with these challenges, the best response is institutionalism and the fulfillment of campaign promises to let justice act and respect the periods of appointment of prosecutors and other high officials. The strength of justice will be one of the measurement criteria to determine the success or failure of the new government’s management. –LA PRENSA, July 1.-
