Capos in Punta Coco planned top cop killing
Punta Coco prison on Isla Del Rey, viewed as Panama’s Alcatraz houses the country’s most dangerous criminals including capos who threatened him and wanted to contaminate the National Police. said President Juan Carlos Varela on Friday, April 26
He also revealed that one of the detainees in Punta Coco wanted to assassinate a commissioner of the National Police with the surname Valdés.
The president last year indicated that the prison is part of its security strategy to combat crimes in the country.
Most of the 13 detainees in Punta Coco are allegedly linked to the Úsuga clan in Colombia and the Sinaloa cartel in Mexico, according to Panamanian law enforcement authorities.
Seven of the prisoners were captured abroad for allegedly trafficking the drug from Colombia to Panama and from Isthmian territory to Mexico for the Mexican cartel of Sinaloa.
Varela made the comments in Cabuya, in Panama West where he gave an order to proceed for the construction of a vehicular bridge.
