Lack of pruning causing blackouts
The majority of power cuts in Western Panama are caused mostly by trees that have not been pruned by the distribution company Edemet, according to the National Authority of Public Services (ASEP).
The regulator said that 82% of more than 200 inspections between January and March were related went to Edemet.
The distribution company blames the blackouts on the dust that adheres to the structures, which when it comes into contact with humidity, causes short circuits.
The administrator of the ASEP, Roberto Meana, says that considered that the authorities of the next government should maintain a continuous inspection of the distributors.
