An alert was activated at 5 am when the man, believed to have mental problems, refused to come down a from a ledge on a building housing the Episcopal Church and a private school, on Calle I.
The rescuers thought he was planning to jump and, initially used persuasion techniques to dissuade him and during negotiations, he was given a bottle of water that he requested,
Stairs at both ends of the building were used to try and reach him and inflatable mattresses were readied., He chose to flee again and jump over the roofs of several buildings and cross overhead electric cables as police followed and a growing crowd watched from street level.
Attempting a final jump he fell between buildings and was injured and transferred to a medical center with multiple injuries.
