OPINION: Panama’s Musical Banquet
The Panama Jazz Festival, this time in its sixteenth version, offers a magnificent opportunity to learn and enjoy this genre of music that has so many followers, among musicians and fans, in our country. For those who yearn for a country with greater cultural opportunities, this festival is an infusion of oxygen. For those who call for more education, this is an opportunity to learn, because it is not only about concerts, but also about workshops. For those who have lost faith in what can be done for this country, it is an example that a swallow does herald summer. Danilo Perez could have abstracted from the sometimes sad and miserable national scene, and led his professional and even personal life in more educated societies, more receptive to his art and even more generous in the rewards offered to a musician. However, he has chosen to return, again and again. And he has done so with the vocation of an educator and with the passion of an artist. Let’s celebrate, then, the arrival of jazz, the arrival of Danilo and all the professionals that make this festival, and let us enjoy the musical banquet. – LA PRENSA, Jan.16
