3 killed by truck bring weeks highway carnage to 13
Three workers on a highway in Arriajan were killed by an allegedly speeding truck on Tuesday afternoon, December 18 bringing Panama’s road carnage for the week to 13.
Two of the victims died at the scene. One had been cut in half. A third died hours later r in the emergency room of the Hospital Nicolás A. Solano in La Chorrera.
The men were collecting cones from the highway after the completion of repair work
A fellow-worker said that drivers do not respect the signs indicating that there are men working and travelg at high speeds through marked sites.
In Panama City on Monday evening a taxi – the driver was killed instantly on Avenida Omar Torrijos, in La Forestal, when he lost control of his car and crashed into a tree.
Earlier in the day, a woman was killed by a truck on the Pan-American Highway, near Paso Canoas in the district of Barú, in the province of Chiriqui.
El Siglo reports that the victim argued with her sentimental partner over the phone and then threw herself in front of the truck heavy vehicle that passed over her. It is being investigated as a suicide.
A day earlier a 20-year-old girl was killed by a pickup truck on the same highway in Chiriqui and a criminal investigation is underway.
In Cocle a 75-year old cyclist checking on cattle that had strayed from a paddock died when he ran into a bridge and struck his head.
