Nearly 21,000 new young voters register
While there is a growing body of disillusioned voters preaching “no re-election“ for a broad swathe of deputies after a term in which corruption and pocket-lining was rampant in the National Assembly, there will be a batch of nearly 21,000 young people reaching the age of majority before May 5, 2019, casting their votes for the t first time .
Data from the National Directorate of Certification reveal that 53% of minors who turn 18 on October 16, 2018, to May 4, 2019, advanced the procedure to be included in the Electoral Roll.
Young people who did not make the request will not be able to exercise the vote says an Electoral Tribunal press release.
A day of identification was developed throughout the country until Monday, October 15 to encourage the participation of young people in the next electoral tournament.
