OPINION: Sending signals to machismo

The United States Senate decided to postpone the vote to ratify a magistrate for the Supreme Court. The idea is for the FBI to investigate the accusations that the candidate committed, in his distant past, several sexual assaults. In the testosterone-filled salons of the American Senate and charged with electoral partisanship for the forthcoming legislative elections in November, the tiny Republican majority and the Democratic minority were able to demonstrate that the institutions and the legality go over people and partisan agendas. The testimony of a University professor on an atrocious attack suffered in her adolescence moved the American people. Women and, above all, the victims of attacks and sexual harassment have been belittled and silenced for a long time ignoring the terrible reality of violence and suffering that a part of the population has had  while in Brazil millions of women organize and protest against a misogynist presidential candidate, others in the United States make it known that the time to defeat machismo and sexual oppression has arrived. keeping quiet is no longer a valid option for any politician Now we need to see if the politicians overcome their prejudices and act with decency. – LA PRENSA, Sep.29
