Martinelli wants out of jail to vote in primaries

 

Ex-president Ricardo Martinelli’s latest ploy to get special treatment as a prisoner came on Friday, Sep. 28  when he asked the judge presiding over his alleged embezzlement and wiretapping hearing to be allowed to go to vote in the by Cambio De ocrático (CD)primary elections on Sunday.

“He has a constitutional right, which is the right to suffrage, ” said Sidney Sitton, a lawyer for Martinelli.

“As you know, he is temporarily detained in the El Renacer penitentiary since last June 11  when he was extradited to Panama from the U.S.

“We request that you allow the exercise since Ricardo Martinelli is a candidate for a position within the primaries of his political party, which is Cambio Democrático, “said Sitton, who launched into an opinion on the advisory technique of the United Nations, on the right to suffrage.

Mejía asked Sitton if he had copies of the documentation. and getting a negative answer requested that a copy be delivered to the parties and announced that

He would solve the issue later, but warned that “as of this moment, I do not process any petition that is not accompanied by documents”

Prosecuting magistrate Harry Diaz replied that Martinelli does not need “to be transferred with any

documentation … Even in the presidential elections, inmates vote in the prison centers. “

Lawyers representing wiretap victims also attacked the request claiming that Martinelli was planning a political harangue at the voting center and pointing out that each. time he leaves prison he is accompanied by a fleet of 10  vehicles,
