Outraged deputy threatens $20 million media lawsuit
Controversial Cambio Democrático (CD), deputy Carlos Tito Afú, announced on Tuesday that he will interpose a complaint against La Prensa, after the crusading newspaper reported that the fifth criminal judge Enrique Paniza sent to the plenary of the Supreme Court a file originated by an electoral process after the annulment of Afu’s election victory for campaigning with State resources.
“I’m going to sue La Prensa. They will respect me in this country … Those who say that we are not going to be re-elected, can do what they want … we have our people and our people believe in us, “said Afú on Tuesday. August 4 in the National Assembly.
The deputy indicated that he will claim $20 million. According to Afú, “La Prensa was angry with me.”
Sidney Sitton, one of the lawyers of former president Ricardo Martinelli, told journalist Olmedo Rodríguez, author of the note that generated Afú’s annoyance, that he will civilly sue him for $20 million.
