Trains ordered for Metro Line 3
As work on Panama Metro line 2 moves towards its final stages Roberto Roy, general director of the Metro, reports that $88.7 million has been approved to start the construction of Line 3 towards Arraiján.
$365 million has been budgeted to complete the construction of Line 2 and $78.7 million for the improvement and extension of Line 1.
On Tuesday, August 28, President Varela announced that the Cabinet Council had approved the signing of an agreement between the Japanese company Hitachi and Metro for the supply of trains and equipment for the third line.
The value of the acquisition is for $839.7 million and includes 28 trains of 6 wagons with a capacity for 960 passengers in each convoy, in addition to the energy systems, signage, and telecommunications.
The purchase is part of an agreement between the governments of Panama and Japan, which will finance the project with a loan of up to $ 2.6 billion provided by the Japan International Cooperation Agency
