Hantavirus victim dies after 2 months in ICU
TWO MONTHS after being diagnosed with cardiopulmonary syndrome due to hantavirus a 73-year-old patient died in the intensive care room of the Joaquín Pablo Franco Sayas hospital in Las Tablas on Thursday August 16.
Two other patients with the same diagnosis are on assisted breathing equipment.
Carlos Muñoz, regional coordinator of Epidemiology of Los Santos, said that the patient who died was a native of Flores de Tonosí where over 40 cases of hantavirus, transmitted by rodents have been reported.
There have been no new cases since Los Santos province announced a total of 61 on Monday.
