OPINION: Compromised judges must resign
The revelation made yesterday by the Attorney General of the Nation, Kenia Porcell, leaves no doubt of what reigns in the Supreme Court of Justice (CSJ). The details of the conversation with the president in charge of this state body, Hernan de Leon, are frightening: A magistrate who, embarrassed by the illegal recording that someone has of him, admits to annul a case in which he would also be one of the victims, but instead of reacting as such, responds to the blackmail, thus promoting impunity, along with other magistrates whose judicial decisions are now the target of reasonable doubts.
Terrible also, because it reveals not only the existence of the wiretaps of the communications of 150 victims but of, at least, 5,000 with copies -just for these purposes- hidden in two continents. And, if despite everything, they want to stay, they do not know the words shame and honor, the consequence will be the lack of legitimacy to their judgments: their moral stature – to defend and respect the constitution- to decide the innocence or guilt of anyone, knowing – and all of us knowing – that they preferred to trample on the Constitution – submerged in a scandal that will persecute them for life. If some dignity remains, the only way they have is renunciation. Hopefully, this time reason will be imposed on fear and shamelessness. LA PRENSA …Aug 14
