Panama police chief surprise retirement
The general director of the National Police,(PN) Omar Pinzón, has made a surprise announcement that he will leave his position on Friday, June 1 and, says La Prensa, will welcome his retirement.
Pinzón ‘s retirement officially came last year but he stayed at his post to clear up some outstanding issues.
Police sources said Thursday that the decision took his subordinates by surprise and that the official announcement will be made on Friday at a police graduation ceremony.
The current deputy director, career officer Alonso Vega Pino, will be in charge of the entity.
Vega Pino, who replaced Javier Castillo as deputy director in May 2017, has studied in the United States, the UK, Taiwan, and Chile, among other nations, and has specialized as an intelligence officer.
According to Executive sources Executive, the new deputy director in charge would be Jacinto Gómez, who is currently deputy head of the National Security Council.
