Ex-Cocle governor embezzlement trial

Richard Fifer, the ex-governor of Coclé, will face trial for alleged embezzlement and corruption of public servants when he held office, between 1999 and 2002.

Judge Nicanor Carrión also called to trial Héctor Emilio Álvarez and Juan Carlos Zúñiga, former officials, as “alleged offenders of a crime against the public administration. “

The oral hearing was scheduled for September 12 and 13 of this year at 8:30 a.m., and  October 3 and 4 as an alternative date.

The case that began with a note from the Comptroller General of Panama, dated March 1, 2004, where it was established that for the period of September 2, 1999, to January 31, 2002, an economic loss had been caused to the Governorate of Coclé of $68,325.

Fifer is also facing charges connected to his operations as head of Petaquilla gold mines.
