Boom in Panama cruise ship arrivals
CRUISE SHIP arrivals and passenger disembarkations at Panama’s Amador marina on the Pacific coast recorded major, recorded major increases in the first quarter of 2018 according to the Tourism Authority.
Ana Sánchez, Marketing Manager of Fuerte Amador reports thata total of 35 cruises were received, with 16,349 passengers disembarking.
In the first quarter of 2017, 24 cruise ships arrived, with 6,122 passengers disembarking.
Stephany Castro, cruise coordinator of Ancon Expeditions, indicated that the cruise passengers arriving at Amador road make a city tour and visit the Casco Antiguo, the Canal, and the Biomuseo.
Most are Americans who are older than 70, although there are also visitors from Europe, she said. According to Castro, the cruise ships, generally travel through the Caribbean visiting Guna Yala and Bocas del Toro; others go to Coiba and Darién, as well as Barro Colorado and Punta Culebra.
