Red flag warning on Pacific beaches
Red flags have been raised by the National Civil Protection System (Sinaproc) on several beaches of the Panamanian Pacific, due to the increase in waves putting bathers at risk.
Among the beaches where bathing is prohibited are Veracruz, Reina and Torio in Veraguas; Punta Chame, in West Panama; and Monagrillo in Los Santos.
The red flag prohibits bathing either on beaches or rivers due to conditions that represent a risk to the life or health of bathers.
A yellow flag means that bathing is permitted, but with limitations. However, bathing is prohibited in areas where the swimmer cannot touch bottom with the head out of the water.
