Civil groups protest impunity for high rollers
DOZENS of activists from civil groups gathered on the steps of Panama’s Supreme Court on Friday, October 27 to protest impunity for high profile citizens facing corruption charges, involving multi-millions of dollars and calling for “Respect for the Panamanian people.”
The latest protest over what they see as collusion of judges with the accused and their lawyers was fired up, after the Twelfth Criminal Court denied the Special Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office an extension to the Anti-corruption to continue with an investigation related to bribes paid by the Odebrecht construction company, to the two sons of ex-president Ricardo Martinelli and members of his inner circle.
While the demonstration was underway, a group of Deputies from the National Assembly was meeting with Attorney General Kenia Porcell to discuss bribes paid to government officials by Odebrecht.
