Two new patients detected with KPC

THE NEW DIRECTOR of the Social Security Fund, (CSS) Alfredo Martiz, confirmed late Friday, June 9 , that two new cases of the drug resistant  bacterium Klebsiella pneumoniae carbapenemase (KPC) have been detected in the Hospital Complex Dr. Arnulfo Arias Madrid on the Transísmica

“Because of the epidemiological surveillance that is done daily in our facilities it  has been possible  to detect in the Complex two cases of patients infected by KPC and seven other patients who have not developed the infection,” said Dr Martiz, who added that they have already taken the necessary measures to avoid the propagation of the bacterium.

The cases were discovered through the epidemiological surveillance that takes place inside the hospital and they are a person of 28 years and another of 80 years.

In 2014, under an earlier director, now facing several criminal investigations, including corruption, there were  scores of deaths attributed to KPC.
