Cinta Costera maintenance challenge
THE CINTA COSTERA, which has been maintained in near immaculate condition since the first phase was built is beginning to fray at the edges.
Grass and garbage are gaining ground on Cinta Costera III in El Chorrillo because the contract for the maintenance of the public space expired a month ago, reports La Prensa.
The same situation is facing other parts of the coastal strip as their contracts expire in July.
Meanwhile , employees of the Ministry of Public Works are struggling to clean the El Chorrillo area, although
it is not enough to keep it pristine . There are areas where visitors complain about the high level of grass and poor condition of some facilities.
The three phases of the Cinta Costera extend for seven kilometers covering 76.1 hectares.
Gerónimo Espitia said that current concerns are a consequence of the improvisation that the ministry has
had to rely on because it does not have the expertise to handle these public spaces.
“The maintenance of the Cinta Costera must be under the administration of the Municipality of Panama. Local authorities must enforce the decentralization law,” he
Said.
Public Works Minister Ramón Arosemena said that a new maintenance contract is being developed for the Cinta Costera III.
The maintenance tasks include, among other things, drainage, signage, care of concrete slabs and landscaping.
According to Arosemena, a contract for the work will be issued this week says La Prensa
