Varela weekends at European soccer final

PRESIDENT Juan Carlos Varela, put aside  for the weekend the cares of state and  the ongoing focus on his profligate distribution of taxpayer money to fund medical expenses for well paid government officials.

Instead he  winged his way along with family and friends to see the final of the European  Champion’ League in the Welsh capitol,  Cardiff.

Security reasons  prevented a prior announcement   of the trip, according to State Communications  Secretary, Manuel Domínguez.

Domínguez said the president was absent from   the country during the weekend because he was invited by a liquor company to watch the Real Madrid -Juventus game. Liquor is the Varela family business.

Photos and videos of the trip  quickly appeared on social networks.

Sporting jaunts are a well used perk  for those with the keys to the presidential jet.

Ricardo Martinelli made side trips to South Africa for the World Cup, and later to  Russia.  Martin Torrijos was photographed with his children on a tour of the Real Madrid stadium.

The current sports fans returned on Sunday. They were in the UK at the time of the latest terrorist attack in London. There was  extra-tight security at the game. Real  Madrid won 4-1.
