ENVIRONMENT: A president in denial
Editorial La Prensa June 3.
AFTER more than two centuries of the increase in the concentration of carbon dioxide in our atmosphere, the recovery of the damage caused hangs from a thread
The decision by US President Donald Trump to withdraw his country from the Paris agreements to combat climate change is an act of selfishness and myopia that condemns the nation that he represents to international ostracism and loss of leadership.
No responsible ruler can assume a denial position that discards scientific evidence and multilateral efforts to solve one of the world’s major problems.
More than ever before, it is up to every citizen, moral leaders, organized civil society, and cutting-edge companies to drive behavior change, such as the adoption of clean energy sources, the promotion of technological efficiency and good environmental management, to overcome the impasse which Mr. Trump has brought to the world.
Think globally, act locally. The responsibility to save the planet belongs to each of us.
