Tourism drivers protest Uber
OPERATORS of tourism transit vehicles have followed the lead of Panama taxi drivers in protesting the presence of the Uber platform in the capital city.
On Monday, May 15 dozens of white vehicles formed a caravan on Avenida Balboa, carrying signs reading “Out with Uber” and “Enough with piracy”.
The parade slowed traffic, but did not create majorjams as taxi demonstrators have done.
Police allowed them to drive along Avenida Balboa,
but prevented them from blocking the road.
Authorities have threatened to seize the license plates and suspend the operarting permits for any drivers who do not follow instructions from police.
