Mi Bus rodeo brings families together
THIRTY MI-BUS drivers took time off from the streets of Panama, on Sunday, May 7, to compete in a rodeo testing their driving skills.
The first “Rodeo Mi Bus” involved five drivers and five maintenance staff wearing cowboy hats from each of the six yards of the company, and was watched by thousands of family members of over 4,000 Mi Bus staff.
Drivers had eight minutes to navigate through a labyrinth of cones in a time of eight minutes with Oliveta Aguilera and Elvis González, both of La Cabima, taking first and second places. All competitors also had to take a written test to prove they know the traffic laws.
In the technical contest, problems hidden in metrobuses had to be detected and fixed by maintenance personnel. The winning yard was Los Pueblos, followed by, La Cabima and El Chorrillo.
There was musical entertainment and food stalls and children’s play centers.
Alfonso Penedo, general manager of First Transit the company that administers Mi Bus), said: “The most important thing is to celebrate the safety and professionalism of the staff who work in this company and that their family is part of their work,”
Mi Bus has 3,227 drivers.
