Impaired truck driver sends four to hospital
A TRUCK DRIVER who recorded an over the limit reading on a police breathalyser, sent four people to hospital, when he collided with a taxi on Saturday, May 6. One of the injured is in critical condition.
The collision took place on the Pan-American highway at the entrance to San Juan, in Pacora, at 9:00 p.m.
The 44-year-old driver of the Freightliner truck, registered 80 micrograms per deciliter in on the breathalyser said a police source.
The Nissan Sentra taxi was demolished. Paulina Peréz 55, is in stable condition at Santo Tomas hospital, and her 14-year-old son is at the Hospital del Nino.
Another seriously injured unidentified passenger is out of danger at the Hospital San Miguel Árcangel.
The same evening the driver of a speeding sedan was killed at Costa Esmeralda, San Carlos district.
Authorities are investigating whether the driver may have fallen asleep at the wheel.
