Government warned on unconstitutional hand-outs
THE GOVERNMENT’S Administration Prosecutor , Rigoberto González, has urged Panama’s institutions that make donations with public funds to “pay attention” to the decision of the Supreme Court (CSJ), which has declared “unconstitutional” the decree issued by the Comptroller on donations handed out by the National Assembly.
He affirmed on Friday, Mar.24, that the CSJ ruling is clear and the donations with public funds “have no basis in the Constitution”.
Other State Bodies, such as the Executive, also
give donations and support through a discretionary fund handled by the President of the Republic.
La Prensa documented that between July 2014 and March 2017, the Legislative branch managed $14 million in donations and subsidies, which in some cases did not reach their alleged beneficiaries.
