OPINION: Assembly morality on the line
Hoyporhoy, La Prensa, Mar.14
THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY has appointed a special commission to investigate supposed acts of corruption, which occurred during the last three presidential periods. The big unknown is with what morality the deputies intend to carry out this initiative, when precisely at this time they are facing serious questions as a result of the squandering of public resources.
To pretend that this organ of the State, which is not responsible for investigating possible crime but to legislate, will discover and verify State acts of corruption objectively and impartially, much less in this period of time [90 days], is simply another mockery of society.
If the deputies are really interested in ending this scourge, why then have they not started the discussion and approval of the Public Procurement Law? Or is it that they do not take account of the lack of credibility enjoyed by their actions before the country?
