Island of Flowers bans booze coolers

VISITORS to Taboga, “The Island of Flowers”, a favorite destination of  Panama City day trippers, will no longer be able to  disembark with coolers containing alcoholic beverages or prepared  food.

The ban on alcohol is  in reaction  to drinking sprees on the beaches and the food ban targets  Panama City “entrepreneurs” selling food without permits.

The restrictions have been imposed by the local municipality because there has been an increase in people taking  coolers filled with alcohol to the island which is Panama’s nearest “get away from the city” destination  reachable  by ferry in as little as 30 minutes .

and the food vendors  situation could generate health problems for those who consume their wares says the Island’s mayor.

The municipality  will also prohibit  camping in the area of La Restinga without permission.
