Fire devastates wild life refuge

A FIRE  in a wildlife refuge where turtles come to nest devastated  at least 50 hectares of grassland on Saturday, February 18.

The  blaze was in Punta Banco, within the Cañas Island wildlife refuge on the Pacific Coast of the District of Tonosí, in Los Santos.

National Police and firemen from Tonosí were called , but the cause of the fire remains  unknown.

Bolivar Domínguez, Ministry of Environment administrator  in Los Santos, said that  the principal objective of the creation of the protected area was to protect the native ecosystem, where turtles arrive at night between Augyst and December
