OPINION: Bell tolling  for  politicians

SUSPICIONS that the presidential campaign of Juan Manuel Santos in Colombia was the beneficiary of a generous donation from the Odebrecht company is an alert for all politicians.

If the denouncement is proven that in the neighboring country, it will affect the legitimacy of the political system of the homeland of García Márquez.

In Panama, the insistence on maintaining the opacity of donations is not only the fault of the political parties but of the Electoral Tribunal itself, which chose the path of silence in this matter,

When it  had the opportunity to disclose this information under cover of agreements in the National Assembly the reforms  remain stalled.

We are still in time to produce the changes that will protect the country from the scourge of future scandals.

Political parties have a duty to self-examine the methods and practices for the financing of their campaigns.

Now is the moment for abandoning the idea of ​​winning at any cost and replacing it with the principle of integrity under all circumstances.

In the end, in Colombia and  in Panama, the truth will be known and all will suffer the consequences.
