Rice farmers plan march on presidency

IN THE FACE of government statements that there is “no problem” with Panama’s rice harvest, producers will stage a peaceful march on the presidency on Monday December 19.

They  are protesting their inability to store  the national production and are demanding  the cessation of rice imports.

Omar Williams, a rice producer said via telephone to TVN News that they have decided on this measure because the government has taken the position that there is no problem with the issue of rice grain harvest in this country.

He said  that rice producers “the domestic market has been saturated with foreign rice”.
