Martinelli meets with CD dissident in Miami
EX-PRESIDENT of Panama but still leader of Democratic Change (CD), Ricardo Martinelli, has met in Miami with Romulo Roux, who has been accused of leading a dissident group.
They reportedly discussed various issues of national politics and the party’s opposition role.
Martinelli himself, reported through his Twitter account: “Gathered with my brother Romulo and I hope to be able to receive the other aspiring CD candidates in 2019, looking for UNITY of the party Win! “he wrote account alongside a photo in which he appears embracing Roux.
The CD leader’s meeting with Roux comes a week after Alma Cortés called him a “Varela card” and denounced that his team has people seeking to sow internal division.
As reported to La Estrella de Panama, the acting president in charge of CD, Alma Cortés, intended to travel to the United States, but could not do so. She is under criminal investigation for alleged embezzlement during her time as a Martinelli cabinet minister,
Martinelli recently dismissed the existence of internal division of the collective.
. “I will support the candidate who comes out in the primaries and I have anointed no one and none is a card of Varela,” he insisted.
