52 Sidewalk kiosks demolished
WORKERS from the Panama City Mayor’s Office removed 52 kiosks from sidewalks in Calidonia on Sunday, November 20.
The kiosks were either owned by foreigners or leased illegally by Panamanians,
Giovanna Delgado, head of the Subdirectorate of Entrepreneurs, said that a census was performed prior to the action to determine which kiosks were being operated illegally.
He said that the merchandise in them was removed prior to demolition.
“The action was necessary and urgent due to reasons of public health and economic fairness,” said Mayor José Isabel Blandón.
Close to 300 officials, including police officers and municipal officials, participated in the operation.
It took place between Don Bosco Churchand the headquarters of Caja de Ahorros in Plaza 5 de Mayo.
