OPINION: When ribbon cutting matters most

hoyporhoy La Prensa, Nov 15

WHAT T-SHIRT does the Executive use in terms of transparency?

The Comptroller General of the Republic has demanded the nullity of the contract of more than 2 million dollars, which the Social Security Fund (CSS) signed with a fortunate company for the organization of a World Social Security Forum in a luxurious beach hotel.

The CSS board of directors approved the contract to arrange the extravaganza with the funds of the insured and the state.

Nothing mattered about the   Comptroller’s questions.

At the opening of the event, the Minister of Health came as the representative of the President to make the opening speech, sending the worst of messages to those who struggle to protect the public interest and promote the integrity of the affairs of the Panamanian State.

The Executive has decided once again that cutting ribbons is better than strengthening institutions.

Politicians do not understand that the perception they have created robs them of legitimacy and discourages citizens, poisoning democracy and stifling hope for a better Panama.
