7 cops under drug investigation

SEVEN POLICEMEN , including four officers,   are under investigation for   alleged involvement  in a drug case registered last week in Llano Bonito Juan Diaz.

Prosecutor sources said that although the investigation was initiated by the First Drug Prosecutor’s Office, the process is now is in the hands of the Second Drug Prosecutor JulioVillarreal.

The sources said that the case is under investigation and so far have not filed charges or applied any of the precautionary measures against the police.

For its part, the director of the National Police, Omar Pinzon, said: “Right now, this is under investigation by the Public Ministry,” adding that  that the institution he leads will not be permit corruption.

He said police made efforts to deal with crime in all its forms, and that the integrity of the institution is maintained.

President Juan Carlos Varela confirmed that the Anti-Corruption Agency Group (GIA) initiated the investigation against the police officers.

Varela warned that his administration would not tolerate acts of corruption and that the GIA is working to ensure that the men and women of the security forces are loyal to the state.
