Reinstated prof sues for illegal firing
A UNIVERSITY of Panama Law professor fired during the reign of former Rector Gustavo Garcia de Paredes, is suing the university for $5.3 million .
Anayansi Turner claims the sum for “damages caused due to illegal separation and deprivation of salary as a teacher” of the university.
Professor Turner was dismissed Panama in 2013 and returned two weeks ago when the new rector Eduardo Flores, ordered her “immediate reinstatement”
The application was filed in the Supreme Court and the case will be resolved by Judge Cecilio Cedalise.
Turner told La Prensa that in addition to lost wages, she seeks to be compensated for psychological health damage for being fired “illegally”.
She was dismissed for alleged political acts when she held the position of defender of the university.
