OPINION: Heavenly route paved with government gold
RECENTLY the Argentine president Mauricio Macri offered a donation to the Catholic Church, which was rejected by Pope Francisco with the following statement: “The Argentine government has to deal with many needs of the people who have no right to ask for a penny”.
Faced with this fact, it was a surprise that the National Economic Council approved a grant of $2.7 million in land for the Catholic Church to develop various ecclesiastical, educational and social activities.
This ignores the needs of the State to locate government offices, schools and sports centers.
Where is the healthy separation must have that a secular state must have?
This donation is added to the tens of millions donated by the Government for the restoration of churches in the Casco Viejo , and direct contributions to the church hierarchy for their activities. These actions make the Church lose independence from politics, and that the legitimacy of the State is questioned.
When the work is good “God always provides through Divine Providence”, said Pope Francisco referring to the genuine work of God and not to men seeking influence and to silence consciences with the power and resources of the State.
