OPINION: Travel tripping judges lack humility
Hoyporhoy, La Prensa, September 23
AGAIN, the judges of the Supreme Court are unable to take action on a banal but highly symbolic issue: the regulation of their travel.
With so many momentous issues to address, the highest judicial officials in the country still do not understand how offensive are some of their practices for a people desperate for justice.
When one of the nine judges is absent , you must use an alternate, but despite this, the cases fall into arrears and important decisions are delayed.
On this occasion, the collective court postponed its decision on judicial tourism, because it lacks the audit of the Office of the Comptroller General to know how much was spent.
Do you really need this data?
This is an ethical issue on which the figures and technicalities only serve to tarnish the already poor image of the judiciary, which insists on making it worse. The public service cannot be the means to satisfy personal vanities.
It is also justice.to show humility in the exercise of power.
