Soccer scam mayor probe adjourned

THE QUESTIONING of Arraijan Mayor Pedro Sanchez Moro by Anti-Corruption Prosecutor Zuleyka Moore was suspended on Monday, July 19, because he arrived for the interview without an attorney.

Sanchez Moro is accused of crimes against public administration.

In July, he admitted that nine players of the soccer team Santa Gema FC, of which he is president, were on the municipal payroll.

No date has been set for the hearing to resume.

An audit by the Comptroller General found possible irregularities in the hiring and employment of some 180 municipal officials, including the soccer players.
